About The Brigman CompanyFour Decades In The Field,
One Standard That Never Moved.
A family-founded firm that grew up alongside the modern wetland regulatory
program and never lost the woods sense that started it.
Our StoryBuilt In 1986. Refined Ever Since.
The Brigman Company was founded in 1986 by Johnnie E. Brigman, just one year before the modern Section 404 regulatory program took shape. Rather than adapt to the program from the outside, TBC grew up alongside it — contributing to its scientific advancement and helping define the field methodologies still used across the industry today.
Nearly forty years later, that same combination of qualities still defines how we work: a precise command of regulations, a genuine understanding of how ecosystems function, and a practical, boots-on-the-ground sense of the land that no textbook can teach.
We have since supported more than 2,900 clients — ranging from individual landowners planning a single home site to developers managing multi‑thousand‑acre projects and municipalities implementing critical infrastructure improvements.
Our MissionGive Clients Certainty In An Uncertain Regulatory Landscape
Founded in 1986 by Johnnie E. Brigman, The Brigman Company has spent nearly four decades at the intersection of environmental science and federal regulation. We evolved alongside the Section 404 program itself — refining methodology, building agency relationships, and training a staff with over six decades of combined field experience.
Today we're a full-service natural resource consultancy serving private landowners, developers, municipalities, counties, and state agencies across South Carolina, North Carolina & Georgia — known as much for our woods sense as our regulatory command
"The chief reason for our success is the unique combination of qualities we possess; knowledge of regulations and how they are interpreted; knowledge of the environmental ecosystems and how they interact; a common woods sense, coupled with a hard work ethic, unwillingness to compromise our principles, bitterness toward errors and respect for the environment."
